Daniel C. Roarty, CFA
Chief Investment Officer—Sustainable Thematic Equities

Daniel C. Roarty was appointed Chief Investment Officer of AB’s Sustainable Thematic Equities team, which manages a suite of geographically diverse strategies dedicated to the achievement of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in 2013. Since assuming this role, he has become a thought leader in socially responsible investing, utilizing the SDGs as a road map for identifying thematic investment opportunities. Roarty is an active part of the sustainable investing community, acting as a subject-matter expert around the globe, including speaking at the 2018 Sustainable Investing Conference at the UN. He joined the firm in 2011 as global technology sector head on the Global/International Research Growth team and was named team lead in early 2012. Roarty previously spent nine years at Nuveen Investments, where he co-managed both a large-cap and a multi-cap growth strategy. His research experience includes coverage of technology, industrials and financials stocks at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. Roarty holds a BS in finance from Fairfield University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a CFA charterholder.

Mark Phelps
Chief Investment Officer—Concentrated Global Growth

Mark Phelps is Chief Investment Officer of Concentrated Global Growth. Prior to joining AB in December 2013, he was president and managing director of Global Investments at W.P. Stewart & Co. From September 2008 to June 2013, Phelps also served as W.P. Stewart’s chief executive officer. He originally joined W.P. Stewart & Co. (Europe) in February 2005 as a global portfolio manager. Prior to that, Phelps held senior positions with the Kleinwort Benson/Dresdner Bank organization in London and San Francisco, most recently serving as CIO for Global Equities at Dresdner RCM in San Francisco. He holds a BA (Hons) in economics from the University of York and completed graduate studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Phelps served in the British Army from 1981 to 1984, achieving the rank of Captain.

Walt Czaicki serves as a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Strategist for Equities at AB. He rejoined the firm in 2015 and has been in the investment-management industry since 1986. Czaicki’s roles have ranged from a fundamental equity research analyst and portfolio manager to chief investment officer. Prior to rejoining AB, he worked on the buy side for a Regions Financial predecessor organization, as well as at Commerce Trust Company and Bank of America. Czaicki holds a BSBA in finance and an MBA, both from Saint Louis University. He is a CFA charterholder.
